Patrick Kaleta is not only an important part of the Buffalo Sabres -- he is also an important part of our community. Kaleta and his Helping Individuals Smile Foundation had plans to put hockey ice rinks at the site of the old Wal-Mart in Hamburg, but it looks like that will be put on hold, at least for a little while longer.

"Kaleta has plans to use the former Wal-Mart property for his charity. Hamburg Town leaders voted for another project to move in there. Back in February, the town board voted to change the zoning laws to allow Worldwide Protective Products to set up shop there," according to WKBW.

Kaleta's project would not need zoning changes. Kaleta's attorney said the Hamburg Town Board failed to give a 10-day notice to the public before voting on the change.

"In response to the controversy, the board decided to revisit the issue. They will hold a public meeting on the issue July 15. A revote will then take place."
