It was just so fitting - the Buffalo Sabres twice blow leads, give up the tying goal with under five minutes to play and lose in a shootout - on fan appreciation night.  Just perfect.

Jamie McBain and Matt Ellis had given the Sabres a 2-nothing lead only to see the New York Islanders come back to tie it.  Then Torrey Mitchell scored his first goal as a Sabre to give Buffalo a 3-2 lead before the Islanders tied it again to force overtime and the shootout.  None of the three Sabres shooters was able to score while the Islanders netted one and that's all they needed.

So the Sabres end up losing 10 of their last 11 games.  I caught up with Marcus Foligno after the game

On a beautiful day in Buffalo the fans elected to fill the building to see a meaningless game between two last place teams.  The Sabres and Ted Nolan noticed

Hockey fans in Buffalo deserve much better than this.  They should NEVER be subjected to a season like this again.  Next season just has to be better than this one - how could it get much worse?
