The team that began the season with so much promise and so much excitement has done a nosedive into a pile of ashes.  The Buffalo Sabres who at one time were atop the NHL standings are now a mess of mistakes and missed opportunities.  Case in point; their latest miserable loss to the Florida Panthers.

The Sabres started off well and scored the first goal of the game when Jack Eichel scored on the power play in the second period.  From there it was a just a matter of time.  The Sabres had so many opportunities to make it a two-goal lead but just as they keep doing they couldn't finish off plays.

Then in the third period the game came crashing down on the Sabres when they gave up three goals in a span of just two and a half minutes.  GAME OVER.  The Panthers scored another one late in the third period before Vladimir Sobotka scored a meaningless Buffalo goal for a 4-2 final.

Too many mistakes, missed assignments and giveaways and other than their top line, they're not getting any scoring from the rest of the team.  The players keep saying they're still in the playoff hunt, but who are they kidding?  Miracles can happen, but this team is cooked and eyeing an eighth straight year out of the playoffs.

So now on a three-game losing streak their next stop is against the top team in the league, the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night.  Good luck with that.
