It was just last week when a North Tonawanda man was struck and killed while riding his bicycle trying to cross Twin Cities Highway (Route 425) at Schenck Street.  Tragically he was trying to cross the heavily traveled highway against the traffic light.  Neither driver was charged.

It's a sad pattern of recent pedestrian and bicyclist deaths in the area and in each case the victim failed to observe basic travel rules.  Each of those victims left behind broken-hearted family and friends, not to mention the drivers who are left with nightmares.

Since that accident a poignant memorial to 34-year old Aaron Hoellig appeared along the Twin Cities Highway just a few feet away from where he was killed.  Aaron was a musician who played in a number of local bands, he loved to read and served in the US Army National Guard.
