This week we salute Sonia Walter. Sonia was nominated by Lynn Hugenschmidt. Lynn writes:

Sonia Walter is currently the President of the volunteer guild at Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport, NY. Her many responsibilities include overseeing the Officers and committees within the guild such as Programs, Memberships, Fundraising for equipment and Social activities. Speaking of fundraising, this guild has raised over $1 million to date for the hospital!
Every Friday, Sonia is the first person a patient meets when checking in at the registration desk. Her warm and caring nature would put anyone at ease. Two other days a week she volunteers in the hospital gift shop and in the Reflections Unit (drug rehab).
Sonia is an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Lockport, where she has given weekly tours of its Tiffany stained glass windows and counts the weekly offerings. She has cooked and delivered meals for Lockport Cares, a local homeless shelter. She is also a member of the Presbyterian Auxiliary. She has helped friends in need with a car ride to Dr's appointments, church or shopping.
In closing, I am nominating Sonia as she is one of the most kindest, selfless and humble women I know. She is truly a gem and inspiration to the Lockport community! Having just celebrated her 82nd birthday, she shows no signs of slowing down yet!

Each week, we highlight a senior who has enriched the lives of those in their Western New York community. Whether they are a friend or family, everyone knows a senior who has made a lasting, positive impact on their life.

Nominate that special senior in your life to tell their story. Individual seniors will be selected by Townsquare Media staff.
