Another sellout crowd trudged out of HSBC Arena Thursday night, disappointed again by the cast of characters we know as the Buffalo Sabres.  For the second time in less than a week against the Florida Panthers they failed to show up in the first period and it cost them another game at home 4-3.  A much better effort in 2nd period tied the game at 3-all, but these guys just can't buy a goal when they absolutely need it.  They generated a lot of shots in the third period, but way too many that were high and wide.

Oh, Thomas Vanek did get a great chance - all alone in front and our $50-million man shot it directly into the pads of the goaltender.  Good going Thomas - thata way to lead this team.  Oh wait.  He does lead the team in one category - tied with Jason Pominville in plus/minus at minus 11 - meaning he's been on the ice for 11 more opponent goals than Sabre goals.

Santa - please bring the fans of Buffalo a real hockey team.  This group just doesn't fit the bill.  It used to be fun going to games downtown.  Any serious hockey fan would have to agree that sitting thru 11 losses in 19 home games is not what this city of devoted and educated hockey fans deserve.  If the veterans on this team can't get it done - sit 'em.  Bring up the young guys from Portland and give them a chance.  If they lose trying it's no different than what we're getting now.  I'm sick of the same excuses in the locker room game after game.
