Having been born to deaf parents I grew up learning sign language at the same time I learned to talk.  It certainly is odd that with deaf parents I elected to pursue a career in broadcasting.  They never got to hear my voice.

Over the years I always wondered what it might be like to not be able to enjoy music, or hear a bird sing or a cat meow, or hear a babbling brook, or the sound of excited children playing.  Having never heard those sounds anyway I guess it's something they didn't miss.

Imagine the surprise of a little deaf girl when she went to visit Santa and he was able to communicate with her using sign language.  In her previous visits she depended on an interpreter to relay her message, but this time Santa, who also has another job as a Massachusetts police chief learned just enough to be able to communicate with her.

7-year old Sadie Adams was shocked when Santa knew her name, but she didn't waste any time getting down to business.  She told Saint Nick she wanted a kitchen and a baby.  Good luck on that.
