I often think about what it might have been like to grow up as a deaf child.  My dad tells me stories about being together with his family before the days of TV.  He says his family would gather around the radio to listen to evening programs and while they enjoyed whatever was being broadcast he had only the green light of the radio dial to watch.

Communication with the deaf has come a long way in the years since my parents were kids.  TV programs are closed captioned.  The deaf can communicate with each other on video phones.  Many entertainment venues offer interpreters for the deaf.

But how about when a deaf child visits Santa to tell him about all the things she hopes to get for Christmas?  Luckily for this little girl Santa was fluent in sign language.  He was able to ask her what she wanted and it looks like she wanted some kind of hand-held electronic game.  But the expression on that little girl's face says everything.
