It’s time once again for our Hometown Hero, brought to you by Batavia Downs Gaming with help from our friends at WNY Heroes who help us with our nominations every week.  This week, our Hometown Hero served our country proudly in the United States Army.   He’s from Wheatfield, NY.  It’s Shane Gregory!

Shane spent ten years in the Army. He went to basic training at Ft Jackson and then to Ft Lee in 1999 where he became a fuel handler. Shane was deployed in 2000 for USS Cole campaign in Kuwait. There he mainly did border patrol duty and guard duty.

Later He was reclassified as a Combat Engineer and was deployed to do a tour in Afghanistan in 2005-2006. In Afghanistan, Shane performed route clearing looking for IEDS and clearing minefields and going into villages looking for cache of bomb making devices.

Shane was honorably discharged from the military for medical reasons in 2009.

We want to say thank you to Shane Gregory from Wheafield from our United States Army.  This week, we are proud to name him our Hometown Hero of the week!
