Actually it's the feast day of St. Appollonia – the patroness of dentistry and those who suffer from toothaches. Oddly, it’s also the day in history when the Hershey Chocolate Company was founded. Just a coincidence I guess.

If you want to keep your teeth for a lifetime, you have to maintain good oral hygiene. It’s something drilled into us from when we’re young. Brush properly with toothpaste containing fluoride, floss daily and see your dentist twice a year.

For emergency relief of toothache pain – clove oil is one of the best remedies. Clove oil has eugenol – a natural pain killer and antibacterial. Use two to three drops of clove oil with a quarter teaspoon of olive oil on a cotton ball, and put the cotton ball on the tooth. You should get relief from the pain pretty quickly. But if you leave it in your mouth too long it can burn surrounding tissue, so take it out when you feel some relief. If the pain lasts more than two days, you have a fever or if pain involves more than the tooth - see your doctor.
