A debate featuring the candidates for the 52nd District New York State Senate seat will be broadcast Thursday evening.

Republican Fred Akshar and Democrat Barbara Fiala discussed a range of issues during a session recorded Tuesday afternoon at the WBNG-TV studios in Johnson City.
The candidates were questioned by Candace Chapman and Caroline Goggin of WBNG Action News; and Bob Joseph, host of WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program.
The half-hour debate is to air on WBNG at 7 p.m. Thursday. It also will be shown on CW-11 at 5:30 a.m. Friday.
Akshar and Fiala battling for the Senate seat held for nearly three decades by Republican Thomas Libous. The seat became vacant when Libous was convicted in July of a felony charge for lying to the FBI.
The special election for the remainder of the two-year term will be held on November 3.
