The annual Kelly Tough 12K is this Friday at the ADPRO Sports Training Center next to New Era Field in Orchard Park.  Registration and packet pick-up begins at 5:00 pm.  The race starts at 6:30 pm.  It's all to benefit the Hunter's Hope Foundation for research into better treatments and a cure of Leukodystropies and to support those affected by these diseases and their families.

The Hunter's Hope Foundation was created in 1997 by Jim Kelly and his wife Jill after their son Hunter was diagnosed with Krabbe Leukodystrophy.  I think most people had never heard of this disease and those like it, but Jim Kelly was able to use his fame to bring attention to the devastating effect this nearly always fatal disease has on young children and their families.  The efforts of the Kelly family has brought hope to families all over the world dealing with it.

You can choose to run in the 12K on your own or as part of 4-person relay team.  There's also 1.2K Fun Run, perfect for families.

And there's a celebration after the race with refreshments and an awards ceremony for the tops runners and fundraisers.  You can register for the race right up until noon on Friday.
