There's been a lot of debate about citizenship lately, but you probably didn't see this one coming: Superman has renounced his U.S. Citizenship.

I'm not sure which is sadder, the day Superman died or the day he did this.  It happens in this week's Action Comics No. 900. In a ripped-from-the-headlines plot, Superman flies over to Iran to provide non-violent support for anti-government protesters. Believing Superman represents America, the regime in Tehran interprets this as an act of war.

Tired of having "his actions construed as instruments of U.S. foreign policy," The Man of Steel tells the American President that he plans to go to the U.N. and renounces his U.S. Citizenship.

Well, we'll always have Captain America.
