Which Sabre Can Sing The National Anthem? [AUDIO]

The Sabres beat Columbus 4 to 2 last night for their first home victory of the season, but the night started out awkwardly when there was no anthem singer.  So instead fans were invited to sing both the U-S and Canadian anthems with the organist.

And there were a couple of emotional moments last night.  The first was when a young cancer patient dropped the puck for the ceremonial opening faceoff on Hockey Fights Cancer night.  Then later the Sabres honored a soldier in their Hometown Heroes promotion.

Bret Hull Teasing Sabres Fans

It still hurts after more than 12 years.  The Dallas Stars won the Stanley Cup in 1999 at the expense of the Buffalo Sabres when Bret Hull scored the game and cup-winning goal while his skate was in the goal crease.  NHL rules at the time made it illegal to score a goal any goal with a player in the crease - even a skate blade.  It wasn't until well after the game did a video replay show Hull's skate was in the crease.

Sabres Disappoint Fans In Home Opener

A great start, but a lousy finish for the Sabres in their home opener Friday night at First Niagara Center. With all the additions to the lineup, the improvements to the arena and after such a great start to the season in Europe, the sell-out crowd was geared up to be treated to something special. But every time the Sabres scored a goal the Hurricanes would answer. Drew Stafford nearly brought the house down when he tied the game late in the third period after a great play by defenseman Tyler Myers, but less than a minute later the Hurricanes took the lead again with a power play goal and held on for a 4-3 victory.
