Where Can I Find a Fish Fry in Buffalo?
Whether it's Lent or you're just in the mood, no one can resist a great fish fry.

Our thanks to chief Mike Emhof, Jr. and the entire crew at Lake Erie Beach Fire Department for their invitation to enjoy their Lenten fish fry. Every Friday during Lent, they serve up an average of 500 fish fries each week, and Clay and I agreed it's one of the best around.
There are so many things unique to Buffalo, especially its food. People who move away crave things like beef on weck and genuine Buffalo chicken wings. Out of towners say yeah you can get wings elsewhere, but they just taste better here. And another thing not necessarily unique to Buffalo is the Friday fish fry. You can find fish frys in a lot of cities in the Northeast and around the Great Lakes with a heavily German and Polish Catholic heritage.
With Lent beginning tomorrow we thought we'd ask our listeners, "Who has the best fish fry in Western New York?" Within minutes we had over 80 replies. Western New Yorkers are passionate about food and on any Friday during Lent you can bet people will be lining up for their favorite fish fry.
Do you have a favorite place for a Friday fish fry? I could probably name a dozen places where I know I’ll get a good one. Fish fries are another one of those unique Western New York traditions. Most fish fries come with fried fish, French fries, cole slaw, a wedge of lemon and a roll or slice of bread. But some places give you your choice of breaded, beer battered, broiled or baked fish – usually perch or haddock. And many places will include a number of sides in addition to the French fries and cole slaw – potato and macaroni salad. I went to Danny’s restaurant last Friday and I was surprised that in addition to French fries they also offered home fries, mashed, German, boiled, baked or buttered salt potatoes.
