The Indianapolis 500 is the world's largest single-day sporting event. Approximately 400,000 fans will crowd the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend to watch "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" at the 2.5-mile oval track. It was quite a week for Matt Kenseth. On appeal, NASCAR lowered the tough penalties against his team for an illegal engine part used at Texas Motor Speedway, then on Saturday night at Darlington he passed teammate Kyle Busch with 13 laps to go to win the Southern 500 for the first time. And it came without his regular crew chief. Jason Radcliffe sat out Saturday night after his one race suspension for the illegal part. Kenseth had won three Nationwide races at Darlington, but it was his first in the Cup series and it’s his third victory this season.

Joe Gibbs Racing got some real good news earlier this week when a NASCAR Appeals panel lowered the fines assessed for an illegal engine in Matt Kenseth’s victory at Kansas Speedway last month. The Appeals panel decided that an illegal part was mostly a Toyota factory error, so Kenseth and owner Joe Gibbs will be penalized 12 points, not the 50 originally assessed.
