Both the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series head back west to California this weekend.  What had been two stops at California Speedway is now only one with the fall race being transferred to Kansas this year.  Lack of attendance has been the problem.

California has been one of Carl Edwards better tracks in the Sprint Cup Series. He has one win and 10 top-10  finishes in 13 starts at the two-mile track.  Edwards is off to a great start this season.  After a win at Las Vegas and second-place finishes at Daytona and Bristol, Edwards is just one point behind points leader Kurt Busch. Phoenix is the only place he’s had a problem this year after a crash sent him into the wall and he ended up finishing 28th. This year is a continuation of late last year when he finished the season with wins at Phoenix and Homestead.

Is there any driver that’s more dominant now than Kyle Busch?  He completed a weekend sweep at Bristol with yesterday’s Sprint Cup win after winning the Nationwide race the day before.  Kyle led 152 of 500 laps for his fifth straight win at Bristol dating back to last August when he had 3-race sweep.  It’s also his fifth career Cup win at Bristol, tying him with his older brother Kurt who also has five career victories at Bristol.

After a disappointing 38th-place finish last at Vegas, Kyle Busch looks to rebound at Bristol this weekend where he's had a lot of success in recent years. Busch was the points leader heading into Vegas, but dropped to 14th when he left.

It was just last August at Bristol when Kyle became the first driver to win all three of NASCAR's national touring series races in the same weekend.

The field is now set for Sunday’s Daytona 500 after Thursday’s qualifying Twin 150’s.

Kurt Busch went two for two at Daytona.  After winning last Saturday’s Bud Shootout he won the first 150 mile race, then in the second race Jeff Burton beat teammate Clint Bowyer to the finish line to set the field for NASCAR’s biggest race.
