Nineteen drivers are already qualified for Saturday night’s Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Any driver who’s won a Sprint Cup race this year or last year is eligible. Any All-Star Race winners from the past 10 years or any Sprint Cup champion from the past 10 years are also eligible.

Longtime NASCAR driver Dick Trickle was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in a North Carolina cemetery.

It was quite a week for Matt Kenseth. On appeal, NASCAR lowered the tough penalties against his team for an illegal engine part used at Texas Motor Speedway, then on Saturday night at Darlington he passed teammate Kyle Busch with 13 laps to go to win the Southern 500 for the first time. Joe Gibbs Racing got some real good news earlier this week when a NASCAR Appeals panel lowered the fines assessed for an illegal engine in Matt Kenseth’s victory at Kansas Speedway last month. The Appeals panel decided that an illegal part was mostly a Toyota factory error, so Kenseth and owner Joe Gibbs will be penalized 12 points, not the 50 originally assessed.

A long day and a wild finish at Talladega. Matt Kenseth dominated the day. He had the best car, leading 142 laps but David Ragan got a big push from teammate David Gilliland on the final lap – seemingly coming out of nowhere to overtake Carl Edwards and win the Aaron’s 499.

Penske Racing lost its appeal to overturn those tough penalties handed down by NASCAR to the teams of Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano's cars for illegal parts found at Texas Motor Speedway. After a nearly five-hour meeting, a three-member appeals panel unanimously rejected Penske’s argument.

Chris Young will be performing the national anthem at the Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama during Aaron's Dream Weekend, which takes place May 3 through May 5. So that's right around the corner.

More troubles for Billy Currington. The singer, who had a rough week as the result of being charged with making terroristic threats and abusing an elderly person, has been dumped as the pre-race entertainment at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Kevin Harvick led only three laps Saturday night at Richmond International Speedway but the last two were the most important, as he moved from seventh to first on a green-white-checkered finish and edged Clint Bowyer to the finish line to win his first Sprint Cup race of the year. Before Saturday night, Harvick had only one Top 10 finish this season.

The 9th race of the Sprint Cup season is under the lights this week at the ¾ mile Richmond International – one of the oldest tracks in racing, open since 1946.  It was a dirt track until they paved it in 1968.  Lights were installed in 1991.
