It was quite a week for Matt Kenseth. On appeal, NASCAR lowered the tough penalties against his team for an illegal engine part used at Texas Motor Speedway, then on Saturday night at Darlington he passed teammate Kyle Busch with 13 laps to go to win the Southern 500 for the first time. And it came without his regular crew chief. Jason Radcliffe sat out Saturday night after his one race suspension

Joe Gibbs Racing got some real good news earlier this week when a NASCAR Appeals panel lowered the fines assessed for an illegal engine in Matt Kenseth’s victory at Kansas Speedway last month. Kevin Harvick led only three laps Saturday night at Richmond International Speedway but the last two were the most important, as he moved from seventh to first on a green-white-checkered finish and edged Clint Bowyer to the finish line to win his first Sprint Cup race of the year.
