The Yankees were trailing the Oakland A's 7 to 2 in the bottom of the fifth when 2nd baseman Robinson Cano connected on the first of three Yankees' grand slams. Catcher Russell Martin followed with another one in the bottom of the 6th. Center fielder Curtis Granderson added a third in the bottom of the 8th. The Yankees became the first team in major league history to hit three grand slams in one game in a 22 to 9 rout of the A's.

His name is Matthew Mondoux. He’s a Grand Island native and after serving in Afghanistan he returned home to find out a good friend was diagnosed with ALS – Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Beginning this Sunday, July 10th, Mondoux will be heading to New York City and he’s walking it - 350 miles from Grand Island Veterans Park to Yankee Stadium, a trip he expects to take 12 days to complete. And during the trip he’ll be wearing a custom-made Lou Gehrig uniform and the Yankees hat he took with him to both Iraq and Afghanistan.
