I can't imagine anything scarier. You're flying along on business or pleasure and all of a sudden there's a hole in the ceiling of the plane. This happened on a Southwest Airlines flight from Phoenix to Sacramento yesterday when a section of the fuselage about three to four feet long and a foot wide just tore away leaving a hole to the outside. One passenger said, "we were in row 16 and we could see blue sky, the wiring, the cabling. It was actually terrifying." The plane immediately descended from 36,000 to 11,000 feet and made an emergency landing at a military base in Yuma, AZ. A flight attendant and at least one passenger were treated for minor injuries.
