I’m always amazed at the impact this area had on American history. Most of the worst battles of the War of 1812 happened right here. The villages of Lewiston, Youngstown and Black Rock were destroyed. The village of Buffalo was burned to the ground by the British.

Many Buffalonians will be on hand later today at Delaware Park as four skydivers descend into the park to commemorate the War of 1812.  The commemoration is set to begin at 5:30 p.m., on the north side of the park.

I thought I was pretty well versed in Buffalo history but there’s an incredible piece of history I never knew about and on Memorial Day there will be a commemoration of a historical site in Delaware Park.  It’s right in the middle of Delaware Park golf course  that’s unmarked except for a small plaque.  Near the plaque is a large boulder and it marks the spot where 300 American soldiers are buried
