Joey Logano Passes Kevin Harvick on Final Lap to Win at Watkins Glen

Sunday's Cheez-It 355 at Watkins Glen came down to fuel mileage just like the race at Pocono the week before.  And once again the leader ran out of gas.  This time it was Kevin Harvick who led a race-high 29 laps, but his engine quit in the final turn.  And as he began to coast down the final straightaway Joey Logano, then Kyle Busch were able to pass him forcing Harvick into a third place finish.

Each year the Erie County Fair invites an up and coming NASCAR driver to the fair and this year it was Ryan Truex - the younger brother of Martin Truex, Jr.  Ryan is running a part-time schedule in the Nationwide Series but did race at Watkins Glen on Saturday and finished 15th.

NASCAR’s Big Race This Week Just Down The Thruway

Five races to go before the start of the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship including this Sunday’s race at Watkins Glen the second of the season’s two road course races. A nearly two and a half mile, 11-turn course track in the Fingers Lakes region about two and a half hours from Buffalo. Marcos Ambrose is the defending champion winning his first Sprint Cup race in a green-white-checkered finish when he passed Brad Keselowski.

Marcus Ambrose Wins First Sprint Cup Race At Watkins Glen

Finally a checkered flag for Marcus Ambrose. He won yesterday’s rain delayed road course race at Watkins Glen beating Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski in a two lap sprint. Busch led at the green flag for the final two laps, but Keselowski, then Ambrose got by him. Ambrose then chased down Keselowski, caught him and passed him entering the final lap and rolled to his first Sprint Cup victory.
