In an unbelievable comeback, Russia beat Canada 5 to 3 Wednesday night at HSBC Arena in Buffalo to claim the World Junior Hockey Tournament gold medal. Canada had built a 3-nothing lead after two periods, but the Russians scored five unanswered goals in the 3rd period to complete the upset.
Canadians wanted revenge for the loss to the Americans last year and they got it. Team Canada beat Team USA 4-1 in one of Monday’s World Junior semi-final games at HSBC Arena to advance to Wednesday’s gold medal game against Russia. Russia beat Sweden in a shootout.
Beyond the ignorant comments by one of the Team USA players on Twitter and the outrageous prices being charged by some greedy parking vendors, the organizers of the World Juniors Hockey Championship have put on a tremendous event in downtown Buffalo. And while the weather on the east coast and out west has been horrible, conditions were just fine in a city known worldwide for its snow.
The World Junior Hockey Championship Tournament has come to Buffalo and over 300,000 tickets have been sold for the event thus far.
Downtown Buffalo has been preparing for months for this event that will put Buffalo in the Hockey spotlight.
