I spent some time in one of my favorite towns over the weekend. Strykersville may not be the biggest metropolis in Western New York, however, it's really the people that make it such a great community.

I stopped by the fire company picnic on Sunday for a few drinks and some great conversation. This year's picnic was even more special because it's the 100th anniversary of the Strykersville Fire Company. From the parade on Saturday to the fireworks on Sunday, the entire town turns out to celebrate!

I caught the talent show Sunday on what seemed to be the hottest day of summer so far. But the heat didn't seem to bother any of the contestants, who were still smiling when they were singing, dancing or performing a solo on an instrument! That kind of entertainment is so down home and so genuine. It is a perfect match to the type of people you find in Strykersville -- genuine and down home.

Water ball

Big congrats to the fire company on their 100th birthday! I have to admit, I don't think I have ever seen water ball before. It's a game that involves two fire companies against each other in their turnout gear. Each team has a hose, and the idea is to shoot water at a tethered ball and push it toward the opposing team's end. Not a bad game to be a part of in 90 degree heat!
