Like so many other Buffalo Bills fans I was disappointed to find out Ralph Wilson did not have a succession plan in place when he passed away. The way things always seem to go in this town I fully expected some out of town thief to come in and take our team away. I hated the thought of the Bills moving to Toronto or Los Angeles. And as much as I’ve loved this team and supported it, I’d turn my back and wish nothing but the worst for the team if they moved. I think a lot of Bills fans felt the same way.

But with word that Terry Pegula has won the bidding process to buy the Bills it’s a brand new day. Of course the sale has to be confirmed by the NFL owners next month, but the Bills are staying and the fans can begin celebrating together this Sunday when the Bills open the home schedule against the division rival Miami Dolphins.

You couldn’t ask for a better scenario. Here’s a guy who rescued the Buffalo Sabres from oblivion and he came to the rescue again to buy the Bills. So at the very least we know the Bills are staying. And whether they win or lose we’ll always love them.

Now let’s move on to the stadium question. I thought it was very strange that the Wilson Stadium renovations were ok’d by the NFL owners, but as soon as Ralph Wilson passed away the NFL said the Bills need a new stadium. The stadium renovations are terrific. Can something be done to further improve what we already have? I can’t see why not. But if you decide you’re going to build a new stadium it must be downtown.

For now, let the celebration begin. The Bills are staying and this guy couldn’t be happier.
