No, it's not the pie you might have been thinking about.  Saturday, 3/14 is pi day - as in the irrational number used to determine the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. Pi is a number that is infinite.  It's been calculated to over two quadrillion decimal places with no pattern to the digits.

This year's pi day is special though.  It's called the pi day of the century because the first five digits of pi are 3.1415 as in 3/14/15.  And mathematicians are especially excited because there will be a moment during the day when it will equal the first 10 numbers of pi - 3.141592653.

So math geeks will be bracing themselves for Saturday morning 3/15/15 at 9:26:53 am for a moment that won't happen again for another 100 years.  I guess the obvious way to celebrate is with a slice of pie.....maybe even a slice of pizza.  Happy pi day!
