Congratulations to this week's Volunteer Fire Company of the Week: The Rapids Volunteer Fire Department.

Rapids Volunteer Firefighter Chris Furlong shares their story with us:

Hello, I'm a Fire Fighter at Rapids Vol. Fire Dept. we were founded in 1935, located in the Town of Lockpot in Niagara County, NY. Rapids Vol. Fire Co. is a nonprofit volunteer fire company fortunate enough to have two fire stations. Our main Station #1 is located at 7195 Plank Rd. where our banquet and training facilities are located and our Station #2 is located at 6131 Old Beattie Rd. With Over 60 active members Rapids responds to over 1100 combined EMS and Fire calls per year. We not only serve Niagara County, but a small portion of Erie county as well. We protect portions of three towns including Lockport, Royalton, and Clarence. Our current fleet consists of 2 Intermediate Life Support Certified Ambulances, 1 Fire Police Vehicle, 3 Fire Engines: two of which are rescue-pumpers with light towers and jaws of life equipt, a Grass Truck, and a Heavy Duty Rescue Vehicle with a walk in command post, the majority of our cold water rescue equipment and yet another set of Jaws of Life. All of this gives us the best opportunities to serve our communities in which ever aspect they may need assistance. WYRK is programmed on all the truck's radios as well.

Thank you Chris and congratulations to all of you at Rapids. I have visited your fire house many times. You have a great bunch of dedicated people at Rapids.

If you would like to be considered for our weekly salute to our Hometown Heroes, please send me a photo and bio of your volunteer fire company to: johnlamond@wyrk.com

God Bless all firefighters everywhere!
