Matt Groening has finally revealed where the idea for “Springfield” came from.  If you are not familiar with one of the most popular animated TV shows of all time, Springfield is the town where The Simpsons live.  Groening told the “Smithsonian” magazine that the town was based on….. Springfield, Oregon.  Growing up, Groening was a big fan of the show “Father Knows Best”, which was set in Springfield…..and he just assumed it was the town next to Portland.  When Groening began work on the show, he picked Springfield hoping that everyone would think it was the Springfield in their area!
