The 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame Commemorative Coin Program is going to produce a first for the U.S. Mint. The coin is being produced in recognition and celebration of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, which celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2014.

What's special about this coin is that it's the first manufactured by the U.S. Mint that will be curved. That's right. It's a convex/concave coin. So it will be shaped more like a contact lens than the coins that you're used to seeing.

They come in different denominations too. There will be:

  • 50,000 $5 gold coins
  • 400,000 $1 silver coins
  • 750,000 half-dollar clad coins

There are also surcharges along with the price of the coin. Prices for the coins will include surcharges of $35 for each gold coin, $10 for each silver coin, and $5 for each half-dollar.

Look for the coins to go on sale at noon on March 27, 2014.
