‘The Voice’ Battle Round Recap: Blake Shelton Keeps Rudy Parris
Blake Shelton was at it again on tonight's (Oct. 9) battle round on 'The Voice.' Here's how things shook out for the country coach, who had a light workload due to the editing, since this particular episode was just an hour long. He had one battle, which was only partially televised, and attempted to steal one of Adam Levine's castoffs.
Battle: Charlie Rey vs. Rudy Parris: Rudy Wins
The battle between smog technician Charlie Rey and country singer Rudy Parris was shown in truncated form. We didn't get to see their practice or mentor session, only a few bars of their battle. The two were tasked with singing 'Bad Day' by Daniel Powter. A snippet of Shelton saying that Charlie still struggled with his nerves and that he beat himself was show, and that was all the indication we got about why the coach ultimately went with Parris. We'd have liked to have seen the battle in its entirety, but we don't produce or edit the show.
Steal Attempt: Caitlin Michele Chooses Cee Lo Green
Team Adam's Caitlin Michele turned in a haunting performance of Ellie Goulding's 'Lights' during her battle with Melanie Martinez. Both Shelton and Cee Lo Green attempted the steal for the singer. Shelton, who had turned his big red chair around for Michele during the blind auditions, said that he has a soft spot for unique singers like her, which is why her wanted her then and wanted her now. Despite his best pitch, Michele chose Green. Shelton joked that Caitlin must hate him, since she shut him down twice. "Maybe I met her in the past and I was a jacka--- to her," he said about her double rejection. He had no hard feelings, and was in fact gracious in defeat, saying she deserves to be in the competition.
So after the initial week of battle rounds, Shelton's team consists of Terry McDermott, Gracia Harrison, Rudy Parris and Collin McLoughlin, the latter whom he pilfered from Team Adam. Casey Muessigmann, 2 Steel Girls and Charlie Rey have been sent home and are no longer are part of Team Blake nor where they stolen by other coaches.
