It’s time once again for our Hometown Hero, brought to you by Batavia Downs Gaming with help from our friends at WNY Heroes who help us with our nominations every week.  This Week’s Hometown Hero is from Buffalo, NY.  From our United States Army, it’s Thomas A. Altmeyer!

Thomas was born here in Buffalo.  He joined the army and served with the 800th Military Police from 1989 to 1998.  He served 2 terms of war in Gulf War 1 and 2, Operation Desert Shield, and Operation Desert Storm.  While there they built the first prisoner of war camp in the Arabian Desert and processed over 80,000 inmates.

Thomas still serves on the board of the American Legion Post #264 in Tonawanda.  He is a member of Team Up To Clean Up the Erie Canal Gateway Lions Club and also serves as public relations for the Vietnam Veterans #77 Cobra Helicopter.  He also performs lots of volunteer activities including Warmth for hungry hearts, a group who feeds locals breakfast every Monday morning.  Also volunteers as a  photographer and promotes fundraisers to help others and to get people to volunteer. Just started Care packages for our troops program at Grove st Christian church to send items over seas.

It is people like this that live to serve that we are proud to put the spotlight on.  If you see Thomas Altmeyer on the street, please tell him thank you for his service.  And we are happy to name him this week’s Hometown Hero.

Thanks once again to Thomas A. Altmeyer from the United States Army, our Hometown Hero of the week!
