It’s time once again for our Hometown Hero, brought to you by Keller Chevrolet and Batavia Downs gaming.  Today we remember a Marine who is no longer with us as our Hometown Hero.  He was a Corporal in the Marines from Ellicottville, NY.  Our Hometown Hero is Corporal Alan Brown.

Alan Brown served two tours of duty in Afghanistan.  The second tour was strictly volunteer.  However, sadly Corporal Brown suffered from a sickness known as PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) and on May 10th 2014 after only being home for nine months, Alan took his own life.  It’s something that we hear about all too often.  Alan was enrolled to begin his studies in engineering at the University of Pittsburgh.

For everything that Alan gave up for our country, we are proud to call him our Hometown Hero of the week.

Being a survivor of suicide was the hardest thing that I’ve had to deal with in my life.  I still struggle with it today.  Suicide should never be an option.  But I also don’t think that the way they went out should define the person that they were before they struggled with depression.

Remember to nominate your Hometown Hero at WYRK.com!

Thanks once again to Corporal Alan Brown, our Hometown Hero of the week!
