UPDATE: at 12:36 post by Tom Petty + The Heartbreakers officially announce Tom Petty has lost his fight.

NOTE: The original story posted below was in response to the death rumors on the internet Monday morning before his death.

Tom Petty has now died.

CBS reported that Petty passed away Monday morning and although he is in rough shape, Tom Petty is still alive.

That all started the confusion when Tom Petty went into cardiac arrest inside of his home.

The LAPD issued a statement saying it has no information on Petty’s condition and that “initial information was inadvertently provided to some media sources. We apologize for any inconvenience in this reporting".

While Tom Petty is still hospitalized, he is still hanging in there. Media outlets quickly reverted their initial stories, causing some people to already believe that 66-year-old Tom Petty had passed.

John Mayer, Jake Owen, Shania Twain, Courtney Love, Talib Kweli, Kid Rock, Cyndi Lauper, Paul Stanley and many, many more all sent their condolences on Twitter yesterday---only thing is, Tom Petty has not died.
