Ah, the CMA Awards. Country Music's Biggest Night is the perfect opportunity to honor some of the industry's best performers ... and gawk at some of their poor style choices. Throughout the CMAs' 50-plus years, fans have seen quite a few awesomely bad red carpet styles -- but the 13 represented in the video above are the best (worst) and the brightest (ugliest).

Some might say that 2005 was the banner year for poor outfit choices at the CMAs -- and we're tempted to blame it on New York City. For the first time, the big night took place in the Big Apple, and plenty of the country stars in attendance tried to outdo themselves in the fashion department, leading to some pretty disastrous results. Joe Don Rooney forget his sleeves, Wynonna Judd forgot her tailor, and Big and Rich brought ... alien models?

A few other fashion highlights (lowlights?) from throughout the CMA Awards' many years include matching ... well, we'll call them figure skating costumes ... for the Dixie Chicks when they won Entertainer of the Year in 2000; Trace Adkins' "I'm the driver of your horse-drawn buggy" getup in 2002; and when Scotty McCreery recently went full-on floral. Happily, the stars generally know to keep it classic and have stood the test of fashion time -- just look at Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan and Alan Jackson ... oh, wait, except for that one time when he sported an all-brown, all-leather suit complete with fringe (it's okay, even the best of us make mistakes sometimes!).

The 2020 CMA Awards are scheduled to take place on Nov. 11 and will air live from Nashville on ABC beginning at 8PM ET. Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, the show will be hosted at Nashville's Music City Center, not Bridgestone Arena as is customary, and there will be no live audience.

The Boot will be staying up late covering the most buzzed-about winners, fashion and moments at the 2020 CMA Awards. Readers can watch along with us by checking back to TheBoot.com for the latest CMAs headlines, liking The Boot on Facebook and following The Boot on Twitter.
