Trace Adkins Cancels SeaWorld Performance
Add Trace Adkins to a list of artists who’ve pulled out of SeaWorld’s Bands, Brew and BBQ concert series set for this winter. The country singer was scheduled to play on March 2, but named the ‘Blackfish' controversy as his reason for canceling.
Adkins didn’t cite ethical reasons in a statement published first by Country Weekly, instead recognizing the distractions he and his fans would face. “Trace prefers that the focus of his performances be on music, not on controversy,” a representative explains. “Therefore, he has decided not to proceed with this show in the midst of this debate.”
Others who’ve pulled out of shows at the Orlando, Fla. theme park include Willie Nelson, Trisha Yearwood and Martina McBride. Rockers like the Barenaked Ladies also canceled their appearance after outrage over the documentary that is critical of the park's treatment of killer whales.
Dozens of fans have left comments at Adkins' Facebook page asking him to cancel. "I do hope the rumors I heard about you playing at $ea Prison are not true," one person writes. "I would hate to think that you agreed to keep dolphins in a small concrete pool for your amusement."
The Orlando Sentinel reported last month that Justin Moore and Scotty McCreery were listed as performers for the six-weekend-long concert series. There is not an Orlando date on Moore’s official concert calendar. According to his website, McCreery is scheduled to play on March 1.
