North Tonawanda police still have not released the identity of a man who drowned in a stolen car over the weekend.  The car was stolen in Buffalo and was spotted with its lights on in the Erie Canal off Sweeney Street at the Service Road boat launch late Saturday night.

Before crews were able to reach the car floating in the middle of the canal it sank and the driver drowned.  Police say the man's identity will be released after family is notified.

In addition to North Tonawanda Police and Fire, Dive Teams from the City of Tonawanda and Ellicott Creek Volunteer Fire Company assisted at the scene.
