The USA will have plenty of New York State connections at this year's Winter Olympics in South Korea. When the opening ceremonies take place, the person at the lead of the pack will be a New Yorker as well.

Metro News and Channel 4 report that :

Luger Erin Hamlin from Oneida County was chosen by her peers to carry The Stars and Stripes in Pyeongchang. She dominated in Sochi and was the first American to ever medal in the Olympic singles luge event.

The Remsen native also lists  Lake Placid, NY as her hometown in her bio on Twitter.

Some of the games will take place starting on Thursday ahead of the official opening ceremonies.
