Once again, the Basil Family of Dealerships has partnered with the Veterans One Stop Center of Western New York to launch “Vehicles for Vets”, a summer-long promotion in which a veteran or active serving military member can win a new vehicle.

Every week, one nomination will be chosen and their story highlighted on Wednesday morning. During the final week, the nine finalists who were selected will be invited to Buffalo Riverworks on Friday, August 18th for the revealing of the grand prize winner!

There will be a final random selection for the winner of the vehicle. Winner chooses from one of six brand new cars or $21,000 in Basil Bucks towards a used vehicle. The person who nominates the winner will receive $1,000 cash!

Our sixth finalist is Ron McKeown, who was nominated by his wife Rebecca McKeown. Rebecca writes:

I am nominating Ron because I feel he deserves to be rewarded for all of his hard work he has done not only for this country but also his family. In 2009 Ron went to basic training in Texas straight out of high school. He then went to Mississippi to go for extensive training on computers and radio equipment until mid 2010. His first set of orders was to Italy where he worked in a radio frequency shop. After being in Italy for roughly 6 months the Air Force decided to send him to Iraq for a deployment. After he returned he was sent on 3 separate short duties away from his home base in Italy. During these 3 years he was also working towards his associates degree which he did receive through the Air Force college. His 3 years were then up in Italy and his wife and himself were given orders to go back to the United States at Andrews AFB in Maryland. This duty was a 24 hour shop so he worked long hours and through the holidays. On top of working he also received his first bachelors degree. During his tour in Maryland him and his wife were blessed with a beautiful baby girl. Having a family it was very difficult juggling everything. Him and his wife then decided it was time to separate from the active duty life and return home to Western New York where there was family. He currently is in the reserves based out of Niagara Falls New York, an employee at Copeland Data Systems in Tonawanda New York and also is a full time student working towards his second bachelors degree. Ron always puts his family first and is always looking for a way to better his family. He is very hard working and succeeding is very important to him. I feel like he does not put himself first ever and he deserves to be rewarded. Him and his wife are also currently expecting a baby boy so soon they will be a family of 4. I nominated Ron because he is a strong, dedicated, and deserving guy!
