This week’s Hometown Hero comes to us from Tonawanda. He is a Sergeant in the Army and is currently serving in Kaiserslautern, Germany. He is this week’s Hometown Hero not only for his service but also for everything that he has sacrificed to ensure our freedom. It’s 23-year-old Vincent John Bartolomeo.

His parents nominated him, and this is their entry:

Our son has been in the Army for four years. He has done a year term in Afghanistan. While serving his country over there, he turned 21, and also his wife gave birth to their first child, Dominic Vincent. Our son did not get to see the birth, although he did hear the first cry over the phone at the last minute. Vinny saw Dominic for the first time at 2 weeks old and then did not see him again until he was 6 months old. Sometimes I'm not sure people understand how much the cost of freedom costs!! Missing the last six months of his wife’s first pregnancy and the first six months of his son's life has no price. So thank you for acknowledging the service of our servicemen.

Thank you Sergeant Vincent John Bartolomeo for everything that you have given up for us.  Everyone here at WYRK wants you to know that we appreciate your sacrifice and are proud to call you our Hometown Hero.

If you would like to nominate someone who is currently serving our country or has served in the past, click the button below. We will choose a new Hometown Hero each Friday. If their name is chosen, we will not only feature them right here on WYRK.com, but we'll be sure to thank them for their service on the air and dedicate the first song on Noon Tunes to them.
