Viral Video Star Passes Away

He was a huge star in Russia back in the '60's and '70's, but the internet made him a star again when one of his videos went viral in 2009.   Russian singer Eduard "Mr. Trololo" Khil, himself was surprised his song "I Am Glad, 'Cause I'm Finally Returning Back Home" had become such a big hit around the world.  It's not that it's a particularly good song or a great performance.  It's just so corny.

What's interesting about the song is that it doesn't have words.  Khil just makes sounds.  The composer of the song had a dispute with his lyricist over what the most important element of a song is - the melody or the words.  It's a question I've asked many country music stars - what is it that draws them to a song?  Is it the music or the words?  There never seems to be a concensus one way or the other.

Khil was given the song without words and the video shows what he did with it and it's just so goofy it'll make you laugh.  Sadly though, Khil suffered a stroke and died last week, but he'll always be remembered for his song without words.
