I was able to get home to Michigan last week to see family and friends, and if you thought it was hot here in Buffalo last week, it was nothing like the 99-degree weather we had in Mount Pleasant, my hometown.

On the Fourth of July, I got to see my friend Amy, who was visiting from Denver.  My group of friends in high school would always hang out at Amy’s lake house and ride her pontoon around for hours.  So it was like being a teenager again, riding around the lake.

Amy has an 8-year-old daughter now, and she is a converted country music fan too.  Amy was the one in our group that would listen to underground rock and punk music, so I was laughing when she told me her favorite song was "Pontoon" by Little Big Town.

I’m fortunate to keep in touch with the same group of friends that I went to school with, and it was so nice seeing them in person.  I miss them, and you know what they say, there’s no place like home.
