Buffalo Business first has reported that since the beginning of the year more than 3,600 Western New York drivers have been tickets for using some sort of electronic device while driving.

If you drive the roads around Western New York you've most likely seen these law breakers yourself; driving down the road with their phone up to their ear or their head looking down at their phone while they text away. Unfortunately these people will only learn their lesson when they cause a tragic accident.

Maybe New York State should get tougher with the penalties for these offenders. First offense should be $500, second Offense should be double that at $1000, and so on.

Erie County led the way in Western New York with over 2,000 tickets written. Niagara County was number 2 with 510 tickets.

Over all New York state drivers were ticketed over 65,000 time for illegal cellphone use while driving.
