Think about how many horror flicks you've seen in your day.  Think of who is normally the victim in the brutal attack of the film.  There's a reason for the term "damsel in distress".  But what if that "damsel" was played by a man?  Would the scene have the same effect?

It's kind of like the Maddie & Tae video for "Girl In A Country Song".  Do the movie scenes have the same effect if the roles are reversed?
