Who would wear the coveted C this year for the Buffalo Sabres?  It's been on many Sabres fans' minds.  That was revealed today and the answer is - nobody.

Wearing the C?  What does that mean?  If you're not a hockey fan, there's a good chance you either didn't click into the article this far, or you're just really curious what that means.  Wearing the C means you're the captain of the team.  It's a position of leadership.

Many people thought it would be an easy thing to just put the C on Eichel's jersey.  I mean, he's the face of the franchise right?  He just signed a contract extension that was for less than what his agents thought he should get.  He just said, let's get this thing signed and get on with it.  This is where I want to play.  He's showing leadership anyway isn't he?  Isn't that what you want your leaders to do?

Not so fast...

Coach Housley mentioned recently that he thought one of the things they were aiming to do was to take some of the pressure off of Eichel to allow him to reach his highest potential.  So they got his contract out of the way.  Was pinning an A on his jersey another pressure relieving plan?

If that's the case, he's got a few people to share his burden.  There are 4 alternate captains this year.  Along with Eichel, Ryan O'Reilly, Zach Bogosian, and Kyle Okposo will be wearing the A.
