This past Saturday was the running of the 144th Belmont Stakes.  The race was supposed to feature the horse "I'll Have Another", who would try to become the first Triple Crown winner since 1978.  Unfortunately, "I'll Have Another's" owner and trainer decided that they would retire the horse because it was having issues with one of its legs.  A tendon issue to be more specific.  That ruined the race for a lot of people who wanted to bet on the pony or just see him run for the title.  This threw many for a loop when trying to figure out a new betting scheme.  The new morning favorite was .....a horse named "Dullahan."  I definitely had him on my sheet....at first.  I made a few calls to a cousin in Florida who is a big horse buff, then had a chat with another old friend who gave me a few numbers to consider.  Both my cousin and friend suggested "Union Rags", who eventually won the race. I used "Union Rags" in a few bets with "Paynter" (the horse who came in 2nd place).  Overall, it was a fun day...didn't hit for a lot of money, but it was a good time.  I was just happy I won on one of the 3 Triple Crown races.  Next time I throw down any loot will probably be for the Travers at Saratoga in August!
