Back in June of this year, The Suszynski family of Williamsville lost their 13 year old daughter Erin in a tragic accident on Maple Road. Although I did not know Erin personally, I have known her brother Tom for quite some time because he and my son Tyler are members of the Main Transit Fire Department. My wife and I also drove Tom to Driver education classes at Williamsville North High School a few years ago.

A tragedy like this is always painful, but it hurt us a little bit more because of our connection to the family. Also, as a father of a teenage daughter, this really hit me where I live. I don't think I have ever prayed as hard in my life as I have for Erin and the Suszynski family.

The Suszynski family, in the midst of their grief, wants to make sure no other family will have to endure such a painful loss. They are having a benefit this Sunday, October 14th from Noon to 4pm at Samuel's Grande Manor on Main street in Williamsville. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children and will include: food, pop, coffee and tea.

100% of the profits will go towards Erin's Crossings for the research of crosswalk systems and legislation that would place a crosswalk at every local playground.
