You’ve Probably Heard Many “Yogi-isms”

He was one of the great baseball players of his time. Played for the Yankees in the ’40’s and 50’s. He won three league MVP awards and also went on to manage the Yankees. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973. But he might be known for his ability to twist the English language.

They’re often called “Yogisms.”  Yogi Berra can’t even remember saying some of the things he said over the years – but probably one of the most famous you hear sports fans, players, managers and coaches say all the time – “It ain’t over ’til it’s over.”  He said it about the 1973 National League pennant race.

Among the other head scratchers -

“It’s like déjà vu all over again.”  He said it in regard to the home runs of Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle, who often hit homers.

“When you get to a fork in the road, take it.”  Yogi says they’re actually driving directions to his house. On the way to his New Jersey home, there is a fork in the road and either way you take, you will get to his house.

I thought they said steak dinner, but then I found it was a state dinner … It was hard to have a conversation with anyone; there were so many people talking.
