Under California’s Safely Surrendered Baby Law, the parents or legal guardians of a newborn can turn in the child at a fire station, police station or hospital with no questions asked within three days of birth.

One woman, though, decided not to take this route.

Instead, she birthed her baby in the bathroom of a Subway Restaurant, threw the placenta out and left the baby in the cold toilet water and walked out trailing blood behind. She was arrested on attempted murder on Monday.

The child was found crying, upright and half-submerged in the water, but the employees called 911 and kept the baby warm until EMTs arrived.

Police have released surveillance video.
