A few of New York State lawmakers have a new idea, and they are proposing it to become a law ASAP.

The possible New York law would let police access a driver's cellphone after a car accident to see if they were using it before a crash.

But, you don't want them going through your phone?

Don't worry. The bill would let police use new, available technology to determine whether a phone was being used at the time of the accident without going through someone's phone and invading personal privacy.

Of course, New York State has some of the toughest driving laws in the United States. Only a few states completely band cell phones while driving, but almost every state, at least, bans texting and driving.
