In case you haven't heard, there's a lake effect snowstorm heading for Western New York later on Friday and through Saturday. The snow totals for this storm seem to be increasing as we inch closer as well.

According to the National Weather Service, anywhere from 12-18 inches of snow is possible to fall in much of Erie County through Saturday evening. That includes the City of Buffalo and areas just south.

A Lake Effect Snow Warning will be in effect from late Friday afternoon through Saturday evening for Erie, Genesee, and Wyoming counties. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Niagara and Orleans counties.

The factor that makes this lake snowstorm even worse will be the high winds, which could approach 50 mph, which would make driving visibility zero in the most persistent areas.

If you don't have to go anywhere tonight and tomorrow (especially in the morning), you probably shouldn't. If you do have to drive make sure to use caution and leave as much time as possible. Traveling will be extremely difficult for regions where the snow band sits.

If you're wondering, we're just over seven weeks away from the start of spring...
